If your name is Ibrahim, or Abraham, here's who you're named after.
Ibrahim grew up among people who worshipped statues. He asked his father and his people: "What are these statues you are so devoted to?" (Quran 21:52)
When they had gone, he broke the idols into pieces, all except the biggest one. They came back and asked: "Was it you who did this to our gods, Ibrahim?" He said: "No, it was this one, the biggest of them. Ask them, if they can speak." (Quran 21:58–63)
They had to admit it: "You know these don't speak." He said: "Then do you worship, instead of Allah, what can neither help you nor harm you?" So they decided: "Burn him." (Quran 21:65–68)
And Allah said:
"O fire, be cool and safe for Ibrahim." (Quran 21:69)
Allah took Ibrahim as His close friend, His khalil. (Quran 4:125)
And the Prophet ﷺ said that of all Ibrahim's descendants, he was the one who looked most like him. (Sahih al-Bukhari 3394)
